APT’s International Accreditation of CBT Practitioners.
...........................................................................................................................................................................
Level 1
Level 1 accreditation: means you can demonstrate you have attended training in, but not been assessed in specified areas of CBT (e.g. key knowledge and skills; depression; stress and worry; etc.) This is the level of accreditation you obtain automatically by attending APT’s live training or by studying APT’s online training (but not taking or not passing the test therein).

Level 2
Level 2 accreditation: means you have undertaken (live or web-based) training, and sat and passed web-based examinations in specified areas of CBT (e.g. key knowledge and skills; depression; stress and worry; etc.). This is the level of accreditation you obtain automatically by successfully completing APT’s web-based training.

Level 2a
Level 2a accreditation: is identical to Level 2 except that you attend an examination centre with your passport to verify you are who you say you are, and complete the exam ‘in exam conditions’. The examination itself is exactly as for Level 2 accreditation.

Level 3
Level 3 accreditation: is identical to Level 2 with the addition of submitting a project that has been marked and found to be of an acceptable standard. The purpose of the project is to illustrate that you can apply the academic knowledge gained from the course to a clinical situation. This is the level of accreditation you obtain automatically by successfully completing our extended training in CBT course.
Level 3a
Level 3a accreditation: is identical to Level 3 except that you reached Level 3 via Level 2a rather than Level 2.

Level 4
Level 4 accreditation: is as in Level 3 above with the addition that you have also demonstrated your clinical proficiency in the specified area by submitting video-recordings of your sessions with patients. It therefore consists of (a) a web-based exam, (b) a project that demonstrates your application of the knowledge to a clinical situation and (c) video-recordings which demonstrate your clinical proficiency. This is APT’s highest level of accreditation and may be of particular interest to senior professionals who have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills conscientiously and over a prolonged period of time without necessarily having undertaken extensive formal post qualification training in CBT.

Moving From Level 1 to Level 2 - Back
This requires you to pass the exam associated with the course. The cheapest and easiest way to do this is via the web, at a cost of £25 per person plus VAT (£45 plus VAT if you attended the course more than 3 years ago). This includes full access to the latest version of the relevant web based course.

Moving from Level 2/2a to Level 3/3a - Back

Moving to Level 4 - Back
You may move to Level 4 either from Level 2, 2a, 3 or 3a.
For this you need to make three video-recordings of actual sessions with real patients. You will need to obtain their written consent for (a) the recording and (b) allowing APT to view the recording. These recordings should demonstrate your ability to conduct CBT sessions in the required speciality and should be supported by appropriate written material including any initial assessment measures you have taken, your case-conceptualisation, and any final assessment measures. The three recording may be of the same patient, but they must be three separate live sessions.
Acceptable video-recording formats are (a) the digital videotape straight from the camera, (b) a video file or (c) a DVD video. Any posted material should be sent by recorded delivery. You must ensure that the speech on the recording is clearly audible.
The fee is £395 plus VAT. This covers the cost of the viewing and marking by an appropriately qualified consultant clinical psychologist but in no way guarantees your passing of the assessment, although you will receive a report which is intended to be helpful in any event. In the event that your submission is not at the required level then the report should give you clear guidance as to the areas in which it fell below that standard. You may re-submit and your recording will be re-assessed in the normal way; you will however be charged at the full standard fee.
