It is your professional qualification that entitles you to see clients/patients and part of your professional responsibility is to keep up to date with relevant interventions such as CBT, and that is where the APT modules come in. Since 1983 APT has been probably the major supplier of CBT training like this in the United Kingdom.

APT is one of the largest, longest-standing, and most respected providers of post-qualification training in the UK. We provide a transparent accreditation system that clearly describes what you have covered and to what degree. How long will it take me to complete an online CBT course?

This varies from person-to-person, depending on how much they want to
get out of the course - for example, it has taken some people who are already familiar with CBT only 3-4 hours to complete the CBT: Key Knowledge and Skill course,
whilst others have taken four or five times
as long, re-watching videos and going back over material until they are sure they understand it.

Do I get a certificate after completing an online CBT course?

Yes, if you have successfully reached the pass mark of 85% or above, you can print off a certificate to verify your success.

How are the online CBT courses structured?

APT online courses are structured in two parts: 1; The Course Content - based on APT ‘live’ courses including videos on most courses, and this is displayed in an easy to use and interactive way, and 2;
The Quiz - this offers interactive features such as ‘multiple choice’, true/false’ and ‘ordering’ questions, along with additional topic information whether you get answers right or wrong.

What is the pass mark for an online CBT course?

The pass mark is 85% or above. This is a high mark, so that a pass on any of the courses is a properly meaningful achievement.

What if I don’t reach the pass mark?

You can re-study the module until you have learned enough to pass the quiz. The software does not allow you to go to and from the course content to the quiz simply filling in the answers as you come to them

Am I eligible to undertake these online CBT courses?

Yes, there is no reason why you shouldn’t undertake any of our courses; they are designed to be as accessible and ‘transparent’ as possible. Bear in mind though that you will only be able to use
the content with clients/patients if you
have a professional qualification, e.g. psychiatric nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist. It is your professional qualification that entitles you to work with clients/patients, not a CBT qualification.

Why can't I print-off my certificate?

If you have not reached the pass mark of 85% or above you will need to redo the module - you also need to view every page of the online module to enable the system to generate a certificate.

How do I get Level 4 accreditation and how much does it cost?

First decide which speciality you are aiming at. For example Level 4 accreditation in CBT for Depression. Or Level 4 accreditation in CBT for Stress and Worry. etc. You then need to sit the web-based course and exam for that speciality if you have not already done so.
Then you need to make three video-recordings of actual sessions with real patients. You will need to obtain their written consent for (a) the recording and (b) allowing APT to view the recording. These recordings should demonstrate your ability to conduct CBT sessions in the required speciality and should be supported by appropriate written material including any initial assessment measures you have taken, your case-conceptualisation, and any final assessment measures. The three recording may be of the same patient, but they must be three separate live sessions with a real patient.
Acceptable video-recording formats are (a) the digital videotape straight from the camera, (b) a video file or (c) a DVD video. Any posted material should be sent by recorded delivery. You must ensure that the speech on the recording is clearly audible.
The fee is £130 plus VAT for sitting the web based course and exam plus £395 plus VAT for the cost of viewing and marking of the video-recording. This covers the cost of the viewing by an appropriately qualified consultant clinical psychologist but in no way guarantees your passing of the assessment, although you will receive a report which is intended to be helpful in any event. In the event that your submission is not at the required level then the report should give you clear guidance as to the areas in which it fell below that standard. You may re-submit and your recording will be re-assessed in the normal way; you will however be charged at the full standard fee.
